SYNOPSIS:

What happens
when you can no longer resist the irresistible?

Carina Lobos
is a freshman in college. She’s beautiful, sexy, and absolutely irresistible to
many. Jaxon Wright is a junior, captain of the rowing team, and can have any
girl he wants. Their chemistry is undeniable and explosive.

When a
sexual encounter goes viral, things spiral out of control. Carina’s officially
branded “Jaxon’s best” as for a man-whore that’s saying a lot.  Girls sneer at Carina while guys now see her
as an easy lay.

As Carina
attempts to push Jaxon out of her thoughts, the magnificent owner of Club 69,
Valentino DeLuca captures her attention… but Jaxon won’t be dissuaded.  While Valentino provides a sexy distraction,
Jaxon’s relentless pursuit finally wears her down and they tentatively begin a
relationship.  Jaxon works to convince
Carina that he’s genuine and that he wants the relationship to work.  Although Jaxon is Mr. Wright he’s all sorts
of wrong for Carina.

As great as
Jaxon is in bed, Carina isn’t willing to give her heart. Can Jaxon prove to be
too irresistible and ultimately win Carina’s heart, regardless of the
competition?
Disclaimer:

and lives happily -ever-after.  Consider
this your more atypical love story with twists and turns throughout the journey
including pit stops along the way… Side trips that allow for growth,
development, and experimenting.  There

EXCERPT:

A commotion down the hall
interrupted them. A large group gathered peering into one of the rooms, causing
others to congregate.

“Shit” Andrea muttered.
“Party might end soon if that’s a fight.”

Their small group shuffled toward
the assembling crowd. Carina rolled her eyes knowing they were being sheep
following the herd. At the entrance to the door Carina noticed most of Jaxon’s
entourage. Her internal radar screamed to stay away. Nothing good could come of
this. She grabbed Desirae’s arm and froze mid-step; they didn’t need to get any
closer. She didn’t want or need to see what was behind door number three. The
crowd pushed them forward causing one of Jaxon’s sidekicks to notice her.

“This show’s just for you
sweetness.” The guy sneered as he thrust Carina into the doorway. People
complained as she blocked their view, completely frozen in place.

The room must’ve been what Desirae
designated as one of the sex rooms. In the corner a couple was on the sofa
going at it but with a throw cover concealing their dirty deed. Another couple
was heavily making out while watching the room’s occupants and getting their
cheap thrills in that manner. But the main attraction was front and center and
purposely performing for the room and all those gathered in the hallway.

Carina wasn’t surprised to see him.
He was proud of every magnificent centimeter of his well sculpted body. Bile
rose in her throat. She was nothing more than another notch on his bedpost. She
knew this. She’d heard it from plenty of girls. But watching him at this
moment, performing for everyone caused mixed emotions. She choked on disgust
while trying to ignore her body’s immediate response to his gloriously naked
body. She was revolted with herself for feeling anything at all.

Jaxon aggressively pursued Carina
even after he’d bedded her. He’d whispered sweet nothings in her ear before,
during, and after sex. Many girls felt fortunate to get a semblance of his
attention. The “specially chosen ones” got to share more than one sexcapade with him.
Carina had lost count how many
times they’d had sex. What could she say? The man was gifted. But to watch him
bending this girl over and thrusting into her like a dog in heat was too much.
He knew everyone was watching and it only aroused him all the more. The
ignorant girl look mortified to be in the presence of an audience but
simultaneously in ecstasy at having Jaxon’s dick inside her.

It was abhorrent to know what was
happening but she couldn’t tear her eyes away. Jaxon’s sidekick caressed her
arm. Carina flinched and curled away from him. He wasn’t deterred though. The
sidekick loudly proclaimed, “Too bad it’s not you performing sweetness.
Jaxon said you’re the best pussy he’s ever had… and that’s saying a
lot.”

A few guys snickered. Carina turned
her head to the asshole; all she saw was red. The group in the hallway all
gaped at her but she didn’t give a shit. She should’ve been humiliated, instead
she was furious. He’d purposely brought her front and center. Not only to see Jaxon
at his finest but to make them all aware that she was one of his conquests.
Carina could see Desirae from the corner of her eye fighting to get through the
crowd.

She backhanded the asshole. She may
be one of Jaxon’s notches but she sure as hell would never have allowed this.
She knew the difference between being promiscuous and being a stupid skank.

“Fuck” Jaxon hissed as he
realized who stood in the doorway. He pulled out of the girl and shoved her
aside. Carina turned to look at him. She looked down at his glorious erection.
He unconsciously held it in his hand and stroked back and forth as he stared at
her. His eyes hooded with lust as he stepped toward her. He hadn’t looked like
that while banging the girl.
“Carina” he pleaded in a
husky voice. She turned in disgust and stepped away from the doorway as the
crowd gasped.

“You came for her?” The
girl in the room shrieked. Carina turned to see Jaxon still watching her. His
seed sprayed all over the floor and onto his hands. He had no condom on. The
bile rose faster. She’d used rubbers with him practically every time knowing
that he’d had his fair share of pussies. Thoughts of STD’s pummeled at her like
a freight train reminding her that it served her right if she caught something.
Someone like Jaxon just couldn’t help himself. Here he was at a party,
guaranteed to find someone fuck-worthy and rather than bring a rubber he just
stuck it in. Disgusting!

“You couldn’t get the job
done” Jaxon growled at the poor girl. She looked utterly humiliated.
Desirae yoked Carina away from
everyone. They could still hear them. She didn’t know if Jaxon even bothered to
put his pants on. He was well endowed and was proud to show it off.

“You fucking prick” Jaxon
bellowed. His sidekick said something in return but the crowd’s chants drowned
out his words. Carina flinched as she heard the contact. Knowing the hierarchy
in the group, Jaxon must’ve hit the lackey. Served him right too. Only if
someone would kick Jaxon in the balls then maybe there’d be justice in the
world.
Someone shouted at the group to
separate. They all scattered like roaches while Desirae escorted Carina
outside. Nauseous, Carina ran to the bushes and dry heaved. She couldn’t
believe what had just happened.

Book Review: Interview With A Master by Jason Luke

iwameviewbanner

interviewwithamastercover 5 Stars

BLURB:

It’s the interview like no other.

It’s the interview of a lifetime.

It’s THE Interview with a Master.

When Jonah Noble reveals details of his life within the world of BDSM, the tale he tells is intensely erotic, profoundly sensual, and brutally honest.

This is His world. His way.

There is only one question the man will not answer…

(BDSM erotica from a man’s POV, written by a man. Contains some explicit language)

V’S REVIEW:

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!!  I’ve been waiting on a male POV and now that I’ve gotten a full novel of it……I WANT MORE!!!!

Master Noble… #HOTDAMN!!!! I was hooked from the first page. Author Jason Luke, I had no idea experience and creativity could be such a dangerous combination. This novel was able to answer questions that most females want answers to when it comes to adding spice in the bedroom, but the detailed (YES, very erotic detailed), recounts of past situations had my jaw dropped and perhaps shifting a little in my seat.  Ok, who am I trying to kid, let’s just say be careful where you read this one at as you might need a wardrobe change. :-) This was an interview like no other….the interview of a lifetime, where the questions you really want to ask, are asked and there is no holding back. The one thing I loved about this book was the real interview format; rules were established, meetings scheduled, and dictation completed. I loved how the author wove the plot and had me riding a wave of heated emotions, not only from the stories of the interviewee but from the honesty demanded from the interviewer. Yeah I can’t tell you more about that you have to get it. There is a highly charged sensual energy throughout this book that you just can’t ignore. If Mr. Noble was able to draw me in with just words (as he did), I’d be putty in his hands. All I can say is YES, SIR!!!!!  The only issue I had with this book it that it was written as a stand alone, but the ending will possibly have you in tears with the WTF look. I honest said aloud, ” NO it can’t end there, that’s not fair!!” So be prepared for an emotional, sensual, heated but well worth it ride with this novel. (Prior the the posting of this review, the author has announced there will be a sequel)

This is a definite must read and I give it a high recommendation along with V’s 5 Star stamp of approval!

Please, please, please give me more Jason Luke!!!!! I look forward to it SIR!

I didn’t see the blow coming. I was standing at my dresser, eyes focused on my reflection in the mirror as I pinned my hair into a bun when I felt a sharp pain in my lower back. Time seemed to slow down as the bobby pins dropped from my hands and I fell to my knees. I gasped for air, trying to catch the breath that had been knocked out of me. “Don’t you ever think of doing that again, bitch,” I heard Drake tell me in his menacing deep voice, his dirty brown work boots in front of me. I had no idea what it was I’d done. Most of the time I hadn’t done anything. I put my hands on the floor, still trying to take deep breaths. “Wh-what did I do?” I asked in a strained voice against the agony burrowing in my back. Suddenly, my head was yanked back, and my hair was being pulled so tight that I yelped at the searing sensation. Tears stung my eyes at the torturous pressure as I balled my hands into fists, trying to resist grabbing at his hand. I knew that would make my situation worse. “I saw you. I saw you talking to that prick at the grocery store. You think I don’t know what you do every hour of the day? Huh?” He pulled back harder on my head, and tears streamed down my face as I tried not to scream. I tried to remember whom I’d talked to at the grocery store. I had gone there to get a few items, but I didn’t remember having any conversations. Unless… “You mean the guy who took my cart when I was done putting the groceries in the car?” He finally released my hair and the relief was immense. I fell to the floor and rubbed my scalp as he towered over me. I ignored the desire to scoot away from him because I’d learned the hard way that it only angered him more. Instead, I sat down and hugged my legs to my chest as I rocked back and forth. “Yes, Lucy, the guy who took the cart from you. Do you realize how bad it looks when you talk to other guys? Good lord, how stupid can you get?” He started pacing back and forth, swiping his hands through his dark blond greasy hair. His footsteps were strong and loud, especially when he wore those big, ugly, work boots that were always caked with mud. I did my best to stop shaking and rocking—I needed to appear as calm as possible. You would think I’d be used to his rage by now, but each time he assaulted me, it made me shake to my core. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, even though I knew I’d done nothing wrong. I’d been taught that it was always better to apologize than to try to explain the situation. I’d been with him for three years, and it was all I could do to stay sane. The numbness that had taken over my mind and soul was the only way I survived. He stopped pacing and turned to face me. “You’re what?” I looked into his cold gray eyes. “I’m sorry,” I said in a louder voice. He walked toward me and bent to his knees, his ugly eyes softening somewhat as he took my face in his sandpaper rough hands. I wanted to cower and throw up, but I looked him in the eye because I knew if I looked down, it would anger him even more.

“Lucy Jane, you know I hate having to lash out at you, but you give me no choice. I can’t have you prancing around town talking to every asshole you see. It makes me look bad, baby.”

Teaser

The next morning Victoria was surprised to find it drizzling outside. She snuggled further under the quilt but when she reached over for Levi, he wasn’t there. She groggily opened her eyes and started to sit up looking for him, but he wasn’t inside the small cabin.

Wrapping the quilt around her body she shuffled over to the window to look out and see Levi rearranging some things in the truck. She opened it slightly and called out to him, “Morning, did you have breakfast yet?”
He waved back at her, there was mud down his jeans but he looked relaxed and almost cheerful. “No not yet. I’m trying to get down to the main house to get us some, it was included with our stay. God damn truck is stuck in the mud.”

Victoria sighed deeply, so much for getting to see the small town that was close by. “Well I packed some snacks.”

He smiled back at her and shrugged his shoulders and walked into the cabin taking off his muddy boots upon arrival.  He walked over to Victoria and delivered a light kiss on the cheek, “How did I get so lucky?”
She smiled back at him devilishly, “Can’t tell ya. So what’s the grand plan for today vacation planner?”
He laughed at her teasing, “You’ll just have to wait and see won’t you?”
She set her lips into a thin line, Victoria didn’t like surprises very much.
“Don’t worry about it. Just eat your granola bar.”

After they ate and Victoria had gotten dressed Levi led her to the back of the cabin to a small trail. “I think you’re really going to enjoy this.”

They walked through the cool spring air while trees shed sprinkles on them. They walked in silence, hand-in-hand over small rocks and twigs, through the mud until Victoria finally heard rushing water. “Is that a waterfall?”
Levi smiled at her. “Nope. I did you one better.”

As they continued to walk they came upon a clearing with a small hot spring receded into the ground. There were rocks set up around it clearly put there by nature while others had been moved by people to keep clothes dry and supplies away from the steam. Victoria smiled and pushed Levi playfully. “You know I didn’t bring a bathing suit!”

Levi kissed her on the lips pushing his body against hers, “Of course I know that.” He quickly began to strip, taking his hoodie and shirt off in a flash. Victoria watched with interested eyes as he turned to her, his tanned muscles rippling beneath the light rain. He walked over to her and wrapped his hands around her body to bring her closer. “You’re going to join me, right?”  He whispered hotly in her ear.

Excerpt

Finally giving up on sleep, she climbed from bed and gathered her clothes to take into the bathroom for a long hot shower, hopeful the hot water would dislodge the myriad of inappropriate thoughts that had started to march through her sleep-deprived brain.

Star knew Shane was too young for her. He’d barely begun to live his life and in her thirty years she’d already lived enough for both of them combined. There was an undeniable attraction, she couldn’t dispute that. Holding him, comforting him, as she had just a few short hours ago left her craving more of his touch.

She gritted her teeth and turned up the water temperature as she scrubbed her body. “Why is it the men I’m attracted to are always wrong for me? For once, why can’t I like the nerdy, science geek with a big brain instead of a big…ego,” she huffed.

After her shower, she wiped the fog from the mirror and studied the lines in her face. Time had not been kind to her, especially the time spent with Derek. She smoothed the skin around her eyes, suddenly wondering how much a face-lift would set her back. A more close-up inspection advised her that more than a couple new gray hairs had sprouted, seemingly overnight, as well.

“Are you going to be much longer?” Shane’s muffled voice asked from the other side of the bathroom door causing her to jump.

“Just a few more minutes, sorry,” she answered. She hurriedly dried off and scrambled into her clothes. When she opened the door, he sat on the floor facing her, his back against the wall. He beamed mischievously up at her, and something warm pooled inside of her. She smiled back and said, “I guess I kind of lost track of time.”

“No worries. As long as there’s hot water left, I don’t mind.” He held his hand out to her. “Help me up, Blue,” he asked.

She tugged him to his feet and he seemed reluctant to let go of her hand. He gave her fingers a quick squeeze. Holy hell I’m melting here. She thought. The tips of her ears started to burn and she withdrew her hand from his. “All yours,” she whispered and turned to go to her room.

She couldn’t be sure, it may have been her overactive imagination, or wishful thinking, but she could have sworn she heard him say “I wish,” before he disappeared into the bathroom.

Star fanned herself and sat down on the corner of her bed. If he had remembered having the nightmare, or her rocking him back to sleep afterwards, it wasn’t evident in the tundra-melting smile he’d given her. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that. Was she disappointed that he hadn’t remembered, or relieved?

“Is that what you do? I mean do you often try to hit on women in coffee shops by buying coffee for them?”
“I can tell you with one hundred percent truthfulness that I have never done that before.”
“Never.” A look passes over his face I don’t know what It means but I don’t like it.”
“Do you date a lot?” I ask quietly wondering if he thinks I will be some kind of conquest.”
“I haven’t dated.”
“You haven’t dated?” I look him over again he must think I am stupid guys who look like him must date a lot.
“I have never had to date.”
“What does that mean?”
“If I want to sleep with someone I don’t need to date them.”
“What?” I breathe that is not at all what I expected him to say. “You’re the guy that can get any girl he wants without ever putting any kind of effort into it.” He shrugs the gesture making me feel sick at the same time I want to kick him in the nuts. Maybe the red hair does make me have a temper.
“I never lead anyone on or tell them things they want to hear.”
“So that makes it okay?”
“I don’t know if it makes it okay but it’s who I am.”
“Well I am glad that this is coming to light now rather than later.”
“Oh no,” He shakes his head. “This thing with you is something completely different.”
“Yeah I know.” I tell him crossing my arms over my chest. “Its different because I will not be sleeping with you.” I lean forward. “EVER.”
“Well I guess we answered the question about red heads and their tempers didn’t we.” He smiles showing off both dimples. “But trust me when I tell you I would not have driven almost three hours to sleep with you that’s not what I am looking for.”

“I have a complaint.” I said.

She climbed up next to me and cuddled her face up to my bare chest, then she used her index finger to trace a line down my happy trail to the belt on my jeans.

“What sort of complaint, Wilbur?” Ah, Mia’s sexy voice.

I reached down and ran my hand up her thigh. “You should not wear these pants around that horny little High School Musical kid.”

She popped up and looked me straight in the face. “He totally looks like Zac Efron, huh?”

“Mia, he practically shot off a load just staring at your ass.”

She punched me in the chest. “That is vulgar, Will Ryan.”

“It’s true. You can’t dress like that around him.” I tackled her back down on the bed and hovered over her.

“I thought you liked these pants.”

“I do.” I began kissing my way down her body. I lifted her shirt and kissed the swell of each breast before moving down the center of her body. “But you know what I like better than you in these pants?”

“Me out of these pants?”

“Am I that predictable?” I said as I quickly peeled them off her body.

“Yes.” She sighed.

I sat back on my heels. “You’re beautiful.”

Holding her leg from behind her knee, I kissed my way up the inside, from her calf to her thigh and all the way up to her panties. I peeled the lace from her hips with my teeth and then down to her ankles as slowly as possible. She lay there naked from the waist down, watching me gaze at her, hungry for her. Her skin was pure white and it contrasted so strikingly against her dark eyes and hair. She was an authentic beauty. I leaned over her body, putting my weight on my hands, which were placed on each side of her head. Her eyes were searching mine. She whimpered and then tried to lift her face up to kiss me.

I drew my head back. “Uh uh, I don’t think so.” I nuzzled my nose into her neck and trailed kisses to her ear. I whispered, “Stay just like this. Don’t go anywhere.” I planted a swift kiss on her lips and jumped off the bed. “I’m goin’ to play B-ball with Tyler. Be back in a few.”

As I left the room, I glanced over my shoulder and saw her lying there completely still, her mouth open in shock. I got halfway down the hallway before she finally yelled, “Asshole!”

I bent in the hallway and patted June’s head. She rolled over and then got back on her feet and trotted off toward our bedroom.

Before walking out the door, I called back to Mia, “Who’s predictable now, sweet thing?”

I hovered over her sweet body, the soft flesh beneath my fingers like fucking silk. Her hands laced in the rungs of the headboard above her head, propping her breasts high and full for me. Her head was thrown back in ecstasy, full lips formed in a a perfect O as moans escaped her throat.

She was fucking stunning. I moved in and out of her, slowing my pace, hitting her as deep as I could, rounding my hips with each slow thrust and drag. She was everything, had been my everything for a few months, the only one that had ever gotten me.

All of me.

The me that no one else had ever seen.

Fuck of it was, she was my brother’s fiancée.

I’d fucking taken her right from under him.

I hadn’t meant to, I don’t think she’d meant to either, it’d just happened one night, and there’d been no going back.

And now here we were, months later, I was still plowing into her—taking her, owning her, making her mine—every fucking night in my bed, hearing her call my name, her eyes hazy with lust and love when I finished.

Except tonight was different.

Tonight was the last time.

Tonight I was ending it.

My heart clutched in my chest as the words floated through my head. My eyes burned with the pain of it.

I didn’t want to let her go, but more than anything, I was sick of running. And seeing my brother again had finally opened my eyes.

This was it.

Whoever said love is patient and love is kind, never met the two of us.  We know our love is worth it—have acknowledged that we were meant to be—but when our pasts crash into our future, will the repercussions make us stronger or break us apart?

Excerpt from Crashed

“You can go now too.”

His gruff voice startles me. His unexpected words throw me. My temper simmers. I look over at him and can’t do anything other than shake my head in sputtering disbelief because his eyes are still closed. Everything over the past couple of days hits me like a kaleidoscope of memories. The distance and avoidance. This is about more than being irritated from being confined during his recovery. “Is there something you need to get off your chest?”

A lone seagull squawks overhead as I wait for the answer, trying to prepare for whatever he’s going to say to me. He’s gone from crying without explanation to telling me to leave—not a good sign at all.

“I don’t need your goddamn pity. Don’t you have a house full of little boys that need you to help fulfill that inherent trait of yours to hover and smother?”

He could’ve called me every horrible name in the book and it wouldn’t sting as much as those words he just slapped me with. I’m dumbfounded, mouth opening and closing as I stare at him, face angled to the sun, eyes still closed. “Excuse me?” It’s no match for what he’s just said, but it’s all I’ve got.

“You heard me.” He lifts his chin up almost in dismissal but still keeps his eyes closed. “You know where the door is, sweetheart.”

 Synopsis

Book #2 of the Driven Trilogy

What happens when the one person you never expected suddenly happens to be the one you’ll fight the hardest to keep?

Colton stole my heart. He wasn’t supposed to, and I sure as hell didn’t want him to, but he crashed into my life, ignited feelings within me that I thought had died forever, and fueled a passion that I never knew could exist.

Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet and into my life. Now I don’t think I’ll ever be the same. She’s seen glimpses of the darkness within me, and yet she’s still here. Still fighting for me. She is without a doubt the saint, and I am most definitely the sinner.

How is it the one thing neither of us wanted—neither of us anticipated that fateful night—has us fighting so hard to keep?

He steals my breath, stops my heart, and brings me back to life again all in a split second of time. But how can I love a man who won’t let me in? Who continually pushes me away to prevent me from seeing the damaged secrets in his past? My heart has fallen, but patience and forgiveness can only go so far.

How can I desire a woman who unnerves me, defies me, and forces me to see that in the deep, black abyss of my soul there’s someone worthy of her love? A place and person I swore I’d never be again. Her selfless heart and sexy body deserve so much more than I’ll ever be capable of giving her. I know I can’t be what she needs, so why can’t I just let her go?

We are driven by need and fueled with desire, but is that enough for us to crash into love?

“Selective/Memory”

By D D Lorenzo

Prologue/Capacity

It was perfect—at least, for this purpose. This was the location. That was, after all, what she had come to expect, wasn’t it? Perfection. Nothing more, nothing less, and it pleased her. An ocean view because he liked it, seclusion because she did. It wasn’t an enormous house, but would be adequate for her needs; she truly didn’t consider his. She had only picked the ocean view house due to the seclusion, and she could make him believe that she chose it for him. It was all an illusion, really—as were most things for her accommodation.

The furnishings had arrived earlier in the week. She didn’t inconvenience herself for their arrival—there were people who handled that sort of thing—and she hated mingling with

those that didn’t matter. Money took care of them and what they did to suit her.

As she walked from room to room, she took in some of the mediocre choices she had made—all for his taste—so she could achieve her ultimate goal—him.

How did that beach bitch ever stand the look of this shit? she thought as she wrinkled her nose in distaste at the overstuffed sofa and chairs in the living room. It was a bit more elegant a display than was in Declan’s home. Of course it would be—she was Marisol Franzi! Her taste was much better than Declan’s or his former plaything. That was evident to even the most mundane decorator.

Walking through the kitchen, she snickered at the coffeemaker, thinking it almost blasé.

Did he never think of cappuccino, espresso? Did the man even remember he had been all over the world?

The kitchen looked adequate enough, but no matter, she wouldn’t be there long enough to think about it—and she certainly didn’t cook! The idea was appalling.

As her stiletto heels made a clicking sound on the shiny hardwood stairs, Marisol ascended as a queen in a kingdom. The master bedroom suite at the top of the stairs held a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, its iniquitous waters as black as the void in her soul. The dark night sky held not a single star, to spare her a flicker of hope in her malevolent beauty. An imposing full moon cast a sinister light into the room. It beckoned her to walk up to the large window, which could be seen from the massive bed, the wood expertly carved in the four posters. ♪

“Oh…the things you will see me do, Mr. Moon…” she said suggestively as she reached up, first one arm, then the other, behind her to unzip her dress.

Letting it fall to the floor, Marisol made her way to the bed and crawled like a cat into the middle of its grand size as a contemptible shadow followed her from the window.

Lying there, she stared out at the moon, reveling in the knowledge that she could hear nothing but the objectionable ocean, and that no one would be able to hear the screams and moans that would come from this house. The thoughts that crossed her mind gave her the most delicious sensation running through her veins. She closed her eyes to savor the mental pictures. She had been tolerant, compliant, and even passive until she felt she would scream, but for this, she had planned every small detail. She shivered with the intensity of joy that flooded her, knowing that her efforts would not be in vain, and the time was coming soon. She’d finally get what she had planned and waited for. Nothing—and no one—could stop her. No one ever could.

When she had come to this country, and she, Marisol—THE supermodel—was created, they told her she’d never want for anything again—and they didn’t know how right they were.

She was invincible.

She had conquered everything.

She was a vencedor—a winner!

Excerpt
Marc started to
stand, but she stopped him with her hand on his forearm.  He did sit back down, but he crossed his
massive arms in front of his chest, leaning back into the couch and looking the
opposite direction, away from her.
            “I
know none of this makes sense. Not sure I do either. I thought that—well I just
thought a little night of anonymous sex with no strings would be something—and
this is a totally selfish thing here, I admit it—I thought I could just have…”
This was going to be much more difficult than she’d planned. Everything she
wanted to say wasn’t right. “I just wanted one more night being single, being
free to choose, being with someone without it being complicated. And I’m sorry.
I realize now that that was a huge mistake.”
            His
passive, hulking frame and dispassionate stare into the distance broke her
heart.
            “Please
Marc, look at me.” He did, but his eyebrows were raised, his eyes contained the
look of someone who thought she was full of crap. She mustered her courage and
added, looking into his sky blue eyes, those eyes she’d gotten lost in, eyes
she would remember forever, “I am truly sorry. I am not a good person at all. I
did this without any regard for your feelings.”
            Their
eyes did connect, and for a second she could see the hurt there, a little dream
in his heart that was dying too, just as hers was. Instinct told her to reach
over and kiss him, hug him, tell him how sorry she was for her behavior, but
she knew that was the wrong way to handle it. As much as she wanted to touch
him and let him know how awful she felt, she needed to keep her distance.
Just tell him the truth and get out.
Marc hadn’t dropped his eyes. He
was searching for something in her face she hoped didn’t show up. He was
looking for evidence she cared for him. Wouldn’t it be wiser to show coldness?
Let him understand there was no future between them?
But was that the truth? Really the truth? Did
all this happen because of her niggling doubts about Ricardo and the life she
would have with him in Brazil? If she were certain of her decision to marry
him, would the night with Marc have happened? She honestly didn’t know the
answer to that.
            “It
was the most beautiful afternoon I’ve spent in my entire life. I will never
forget it. Never, Marc,” she said.
His crooked smile
with the dimple on the right side of his full lips was sexy as hell, and
changed the mask of his face.
            “It
was a pretty incredible afternoon, but hey, no worries, Sophia. I’m not looking
to get hooked up with anyone. I’m getting ready to deploy. This is just a
little R and R before we go. It kind of worked, in a sick sense of the word.”
He looked at his palms.
            She
hadn’t expected that.
            “You
aren’t angry?”
            “For
an afternoon of the best sex of my life? Fuck no.”
            It
was a nice thing to say, but she felt the blunt force of a verbal slap. “I
think it was more than that, is what I’m trying to say,” she said, her voice
low and husky.
            Marc
shot up, put his hands in his cargo shorts. “I’m glad. While you’re working
your way through the cruise ship males, I’ll be having beers with my buds and
probably swearing off Italian girls for awhile.” He began to walk out of the
bar.
            She
had to do something. She ran and stood in front of him, to stop him.
            “Wait
a minute. What I want to say is that it wasn’t just a hookup. I mean it started
that way, but it became more, I guess is what I’m saying.”
            “Well,
that’s fine, honey. And if you get that itch again, I’ll scratch it. No
worries. I’m not going to get pissed off and ruin another good time.” His
brilliant white teeth and blue eyes melted her bones.
            “So
it wasn’t—“
            “You
don’t have the right to that privileged information, honey. You’re engaged to
someone else. I don’t gotta tell you anything about me or how I feel about
anything, remember? But if you want another anonymous hookup, I’m not going
anywhere. We’ve got like twenty days together. We’ve already proven we can let
our bodies do the talking since the words seem to get in the way.”
            He
left the bar. She felt her stomach drop to her ankles.
            It
wasn’t easy to put it out of her mind, the look on his face as he turned, bowed
slightly and walked out of her life. She’d already cried for him once as she
was walking away from him in the Piazza. She’d left a part of her with him that
day, and now today he took away another piece as he walked down the marble
foyer, pushed the up button and left in the elevator.
